Ferdi’s Journal
Date: 09/25/25
Today, I went on a walk with my friend Freddy the Fritillary. The sun was warm, and the breeze made the flowers along the path dance as if they were happy to see us. Freddy is always so cheerful and full of knowledge—he notices things I would never think to look at.
As we hopped and fluttered along, he pointed out a Monarch resting on a milkweed. He told me Monarchs travel farther than almost any other butterfly, flying all the way to Mexico! Imagine being so small and making such a grand journey.
Next, we saw a Painted Lady with wings like an artist’s canvas. Freddy explained that Painted Ladies can live almost anywhere in the world. “They’re great travelers too,” he said with a smile.
Then, we spotted a Swallowtail sipping nectar, its long tails trailing behind like ribbons. Freddy whispered that these tails can trick hungry birds into pecking the wrong spot—clever camouflage!
I felt my eyes open wider with each butterfly Freddy showed me. The world is so much bigger and more wonderful when you walk it with a friend who loves to share its secrets.
When we reached the stream, I told Freddy that his wings weren’t just beautiful—they were like storybooks filled with wisdom. He laughed and fluttered higher into the sunlight, promising that next time he’d show me butterflies that only come out at dusk.
I can’t wait.
